Maria Markova represents public entities in civil rights cases, as well as employment and general liability litigation.  Ms. Markova has substantial experience defending employment claims brought under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Fair Employment and Housing Act, and the California Labor Code. Her experience also extends to Section 1983 litigation, the Unruh Act, the Ralph Act, and the Bane Act, in both state and federal courts.

Ms. Markova’s extensive litigation experience includes handling cases from beginning to end, and she is intricately familiar with all aspects of discovery, motion practice, trial preparation, and appeals.  Whether in or out of the court room, Ms. Markova has successfully represented public and private entities and their employees and developed strategies to achieve desired outcomes.

During law school, Ms. Markova served as a judicial extern to now retired Justice William F. Rylaarsdam of the California Court of Appeal.  Ms. Markova was also awarded the President’s Call to Service and Volunteer Service Award.

Ms. Markova earned her undergraduate degree from Whittier College, with honors, in 2001, and her Juris Doctor from Whittier Law School, graduating summa cum laude in 2004.  She is licensed to practice law before all California Courts, the Central District of the United States District Court, and in the United States Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit.
